25 Women From 25 Countries Show Beauty is in Our Diversity

havana cuba.jpg

“Beauty is everywhere and is not about race, money or trends but more about being yourself... Beauty is in our differences,” photographer Mihaela Noroc shares in her IndieGoGo video for her crowdsourcing campaign, The Atlas of Beauty. Noroc got viral fame from Buzzfeed, CNN, Forbes and Elle when she broke photos of 37 women from different countries in their authentic states. The stunning photos applauded the intrinsic glorious wonder of diversity in striking portraits.
Soon, the photographer realized that the story needed to be even bigger. She has been traveling for the past two years taking photos of hundreds of women but now she is seeking to expand the book with support from the global community. Her IndieGoGo campaign launched on March 17, 2015 and has already gathered over $15,000 of her $27,000 goal.
Meet 25 women from 25 countries through Mihaela Noroc's lens by clicking on the slideshow above. You can discover more at The Atlas of Beauty IndieGoGo page. - Vanichi NOW

Vanichi Magazine to Sponsor The Geekie Awards 2014

Vanichi Magazine is a proud sponsor of Best Fashion and Armor category for the 2014 Geekie Awards
Vanichi Magazine has joined forces with The Geekie Awards 2014 (http://www.thegeekieawards.com) to showcase just how chic geek can be. Vanichi, a fashion lifestyle publication for creative minds, is sponsoring The Geekie Awards “2014 Best Fashion & Armor” category. The category winner will receive a full feature fashion spread in a forthcoming issue of the magazine.

As the only award show by geeks for geeks™, The Geekie Awards presents true geek culture as a collection of valid, respected, award-winning genres for storytelling and creation. Affectionately referred to as “The Geekies” by its fans, the awards inspire creativity and foster cross-market innovation in entertainment, gaming, products and art—delivered via the latest digital technologies. This year, The Geekie Awards will be presented by Gibson Brands and has teamed with Stan Lee's POW! Entertainment.

Kristen Nedopak, The Geekie Awards Founder, explains, “At last year's [Geekie Awards], Stan Lee brought up a really good question... What is a geek? Well, we define a geek as someone who is wildly passionate about something.” She continues, “It could be anything... We embrace what everyone loves.”

The 2014 Fashion & Armor nominees are Seoul, Korea-based urban knighthood designer Catherine Kim of IAMKNIGHT, Burbank-based steampunk designer Donna Ricci's Clockwork Couture, fantasy leather apparel by John McGovern and Sharp Mountain Leather, Lauren Bregman's Castle Corsetry, and Kayla Stojek of Zombie Peepshow. The eclectic list showcases skill and reinterpretation of many genres in fashion including but not limited to: millinery, streetwear, leather, corset tailoring and shoe design.

“The Geekie Awards celebrates the creative spirit and everyone's ability to be passionately focused. That's a philosophy we also embrace within the pages of Vanichi,” states Jordan Swain, Vanichi's Editor in Chief and Creative Director. “We realize that the freedom to live a creative life is truly a luxury. With this in mind, we're proud to sponsor such an innovative category at this pioneering award show.”

The 2014 Geekie Awards presented by Gibson will stream live to a global audience on August 17, 2014 from the Avalon Hollywood via Twitch TV. Tickets are currently on sale through Purple Pass (http://purplepass.com/geekies2014).

LeVar Burton Launches Kickstarter for Reading Rainbow

By Joy Donnell Via (www.vanichiblog.blogspot.com)

If you just got knocked over by someone racing to their tablet, it's nothing personal. They probably just want to donate to LeVar Burton's new Kickstarter campaign launched only this morning. The star is striving to raise $1 Million to relaunch Reading Rainbow, a show that has been missed by Gen Y and Millenial alike since it went off the air in 2009.
This time around, Burton wants to also make Reading Rainbow available for free to classrooms that need it. As an exchange for Kickstarter donations, the Star Trek icon is offering benefactors nearly irresistible perks. You can hang with him at a Star Trek convention, FandomFest or Wizard World. You can enjoy a private picnic with him and your friends or share a private dinner. Perhaps, the creme de la creme at a $10,000 donation level is a dinner with Mr. Burton where you and a friend get to wear the "Geordi Visor" he made famous on the intergalactic show.

Burton is leveraging his ultra-popular social media status - he's still the the only person Shit My Dad Says follows on Twitter - to spread the word. It seems to be working. In just seven hours, Burton has managed to raise over $570,000 with over 12,000 backers and he still has 34 days to go on the campaign trail.
